Shirts of Russia and Ukraine Sewing Pattern Folkwear 116 XS S M L XL Unisex
Folkwear 116 - Shirts of Russia and the Ukraine. Ukrainians and Russians have always been enthusiastic consumers of folk crafts, often wearing white linen shirts embroidered in red and black by villageers. These shirts, worn by peasants and nobility alike, reflect a merging of European and Central Asian textile traditions, creating a unique folk art.
We offer three shirts typical of late nineteenth century, which are preserved and worn on festive occasions today. All three are narrower than many ethnic styles; each has a high snug collar, a lined shoulder area, and narrow side panels.
In our simplest version, View A - a typical straight-sleeved Ukrainian shirt - the center front opening has facings turned to the outside and closesed with hooks and eyes. Instructions for traditional twisted thread ties also given.
View B, from the north-central Ukraine, features an overlap side closing. The sleeves are gathered into narrow cuffs, cuffs and collar may be fastened with hooks and eyes, or traditional button an loop closures.
The off-center side placket in View C is a russion feature. Its folded construction conceals a buttoned closing. The sleeves are identical to View A.
In all three views, the collar, sleeve hems or cuffs, and front opening may be left untrimmed, finished with braid, or embroidered. Authentic embroidery designs are given for each view.
Printed pattern, instructions in English.
